Stripchat Partners With Cam Performers to Destigmatize Breast Cancer Self-Exam

LOS ANGELES — This October, Stripchat performers will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month by spreading the word about self-exams via their cam shows. Throughout the month, Stripchat will release uncensored videos of its performers doing breast self-exams, reaching a vital audience that mainstream media cannot.

The project began as an outreach to cam models, including over 150,000 women on the platform; the video was also featured on xHamster.

Stripchat is releasing its first video today, with cam star Eva Diamond. In the video, Diamond talks with other models about the importance of the self-exam, and the exact technique needed to perform one successfully.

“Adult sites have a unique opportunity to fight breast cancer,” said Stripchat’s VP of New Media Max Bennet. “With their censorship, mainstream social media sites are failing us. Facebook, Instagram and YouTube can’t even show a nipple, let alone a full self-exam. Organizations like Planned Parenthood and public health departments are limited to cartoon illustrations. Performers can show the world how to perform a self-exam accurately, and they are uniquely positioned to talk about it without creating fear and stigma.”

Stripchat is encouraging performers to upload videos to Twitter using the hashtag #StripchatSelfCheck. The company will highlight participating models on social media and its site.

This isn't Stripchat's first foray into public health. In August, the platform launched an initiative to connect its audience with live cam sexual health therapy, a project that will expand in the coming months.

“As an industry, we have an obligation to use our tools to improve the lives of our models and the women in our audience,” Bennet said, adding that 20 percent of the site’s visitors are women. “Sex and sexual health education are dismal in the United States and close to nonexistent in many parts of the world. We will reach the people other mediums don’t.”
